  • Are Grip n Grain products worth the price?
Check out our Testimonials to see what past customers have said about our products. We believe that our prices are very reasonable. Everything is Made in the USA by hand. We strive for perfection and believe what we do is more about the craft and reducing waste involved in skateboarding then about making money. Everyday products used to be made to last a lifetime and by craftspeople. Now, with the advent of computer aided cutters, robots, and easy-to-use programs, profit and planned obsolescence are the goal for most companies. Not Grip n Grain! We want you to buy our products and use them for the rest of your life and pass them down. We want return customers because they love our products and want more of them, not because we sold them something that was designed to break in a year.
  • Do the products look the same in person?
We try our hardest to take accurate photos of the products that show any flaws or features. We never airbrush the photos. The only thing we adjust is the white balance. We do that to get the colors as close as possible to how they look in person. If the white balance isn't perfectly white then the colors will not be the same in person. Warm photos will add an orange tint to the colors and cool ones will add blue. Every computer and phone screen will vary in how it displays colors.
  • How do you do it?
We get this question a lot. Well it's a very technical process, but we'll explain it the best we can. For woodworking it starts by removing all the old griptape from the skateboards. Then we make everything very carefully. If we are not careful, and make a mistake, the piece will be completed as-is and put in the injured list, used in a different project, or used as a support piece during the construction of other projects. We try our hardest to save every piece of the skateboard deck. For the griptape art, there really isn't a way to explain it. The stencil process is very straight forward and the cutting process is too. It's all about patience. The hard part is coming up with what to cut. With that said, we want to tell you that everything is handmade using a mix of ingenuity, determination, power tools, and non-power tools. There is not a single piece made using duplicators, laser cutters, CNC machines, or any other computer aided cutter.
  • Can I buy a sheet of grip with a design cut in it?
We have stepped away from doing sheets of grip for skateboarding. It takes too long and cost too much for everyone involved. In the early days we had planned to buy a laser cutter for grip cutting. We decided against it because that will just bring down the value of the hand cut designs and, in our opinion, bring doubt on which pieces are hand cut and which have been cut by a computer.
  • How long will it take to get my order?
Most things for sale on the website will ship within 2 business days of purchase. After that, the shipping time depends on the shipper. The average delivery is a week most of the year and longer during the holiday season. Custom orders of items we have made before have a lead time of 8 weeks. Completely custom commissions would take at least 8, but may take longer based on complexity.
  • How do the shift knobs attach to the car?
We use metal inserts. There isn't a reliable way to thread the wood and keep it from stripping.
